  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a quantity surveyor who gets given tasks involving the estmination of small and large projects, I get given bill of quantities and drawings of the projects which would allow me to quantify data. I received the data, then use external factors to obtain the final total cost of the project.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I’ve developed my Excel skills the most, being able to distinguish between tasks and understanding the formulas behind different costs. I was also able to understand drawings better alongside construction technology and methodology. Due to the university course, I do part-time during my degree apprenticeship which has benefited me massively.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I wouldn’t say the programme is enjoyable at the least, however doing tasks for the first time could be interesting. The university degree itself is more interesting as you only really learn new things, but working in the office is not the most exciting event after a couple of months.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well organised, has key steps and the meetings in between are evenly spread. The modules are all useful so far, the seminars are good and the teachers are useful. The line manager system in the company is very well made, usually apprentices have a weekly meeting with their line manager.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive support with nearly every task given at the start and I get given reasonable tasks which give me better insight into future tasks assigned. I receive a decent amount of support when it comes to most tasks on a regular basis, especially when I don’t understand the fundamentals of the task.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a really good amount of training as the tasks that are given to me compliment the qualification and its mini segments within it. The training usually involves a lesson learnt within a different and unique task given usually but not to regularly to the point where it becomes to different to carry on.

    7/10

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Like the previous answer, the training provider allows me to get a good experience in all aspects of the job role and the ideal goal is to become as well rounded as possible when doing the course. Regularly getting given a vast amount of tasks and also learning how to finish them.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are multiple social events that are done within Arcadis, there were bowling events, there were football team events which also involve charities inside. There are a lot of different charity that Arcadis provide, especially as the company gives all employees an extra 1 day holiday to use as a charity day.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Arcadis to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It gives any 18 year old a step above the majority of its generation with amazing experience in the workplace and future experience in other workplaces and on site experience. You get a big chance to develop your network, you can get to join different ethical groups within the company such as the religious team.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arcadis?
  • The main piece of advise I would give someone wanting to join Arcadis is to definitely create a team oriented mindset before joining the office as team work is the essence of the company and everyone is one with the company and not the other way round. Also work smart not hard.
