I currently work on large hospital projects for the NHS, working to provide quality builds in good time and budget to keep the hospitals running. I raise RFI and manage risks while using my stakeholder management skill to keep communication clear and open. Mitigating hearsay and getting to the route of any problems.
I have developed my communication skills and my confidence has greatly improved. My time management has also improved as I have to make sure I make tight deadlines which are crucial to the success of the project. I have had to work on new systems so my IT skills have increased.
I really enjoy my programme, I have gained my degree in doing so. I meet a wide variety of people from all walks of life on the project I work on taking account there needs and goals. I have also made very good friends that started their apprenticeship at the same time as me.
Previously, it was not as structured however I have worked closely with the learning and development team and now we have a structured salary in place which increases when you hit certain checkpoints. They have also introduced a rotation for new apprentices around different sectors. At the start you do have much responsibility but this increases as you gain knowledge.
I am very lucky that I have a great line manager. She assists me whenever I need help. In the past this has been lacking for me however in the past year I have had lots of support as I have had many upsets in my personal life which my employer has supported me through to gain my apprenticeship.
University College of Estate Management is only as good as the work you put in. The will help you and be reasonable if you ask for help and do be afraid to. Every 3 months I have a call with uni to discuss my progress and if i am making my goals.
My apprenticeship has given me a university degree and for that I am very grateful as it unlocks so many doors. I think the on the job learning provided more in terms of knowledge however you still need that piece of paper to say you can do it. So it has helped me perform as I have gain respect.
There are many clubs to get involved in I am part of Women in Arcadis, the Leeds Social Committee, the UK charity board, roots of Arcadis which is for apprentices and grad, they hold socials and networking events. The social committee holds activities throughout the year such as bowling, pool and PS5 nights.
Yes
I would recommend Arcadis as it is such a large company there is something for everyone and areas to develop in which you might not have originally thought of. They have a very good social side to with everyone being very supportive and friendly. With the additional structure in place in terms of pay scale it is a great way to know you are on track.
I would say be yourself and have a personality, we like individuals with their own minds. Be confident and know why you want to join Arcadis. We look to improve the quality of life and I think that is a great way to look at the business, they are selective of clients and only work with those of the same ethos.
