On a day to day basis i am working on the production line at Rolls Royce Motor Cars, trying to vary all the different stations and packages that go towards building the car. I spend the day fitting the package in takt times as different cars come into my station
My skill learning in manufacturing since applying for my apprenticeship with rolls royce motor cars has been exempelary. I have learnt lots of different processes that go towards building the motor cars, especially during my 8 week placements to different places. I know my package in my home department really well.
I enjoy my program esp[ecially on placement when each day i vary what i do so it doesn't get to repetitive. In my home department when i am on the line doing the same thing every day it can get repetitve and boring at times as there is no variation.
Mostly, the communication and contacting is good with many ways to contact like email, in person, teams and meetings however there seems to be a lack of communication between the company and the college provider especially at the beginnining and missed out on some things that we wanted to do. Also, sometimes responses can be slow and minimal.
I receive support when i ask for it, and there are regular sessions i can attend when i can or if i need help. I feel supported in my apprenticeship and know who to talk to if and when i need help or have any concerns about my work or college.
We have a lot of support from our training provider. Our lecturers go above and beyond to help us and explain to us what we need to do in order to get the most out of our apprenticeship. They have intoduced us to new programs and taught us useful mechanical skills.
To be honest, at the beginning most of the activities we did at college were not relevant to our working activities howeveer the theory we do is to do with work, work processes and how work go about manufacturing so its important knowledge we need to know to exceed at work.
Extra-curricular activities could be improved. Every so often there is the odd social event and activities to get involved with but they aren't suited to everyone. I think a sports team/ go karting team as we are a car company so it would be suitable to what we do.
Yes
I think, if you try and progress and push to get more specific job roles especially in engineering it provides a briliuant career path for life with many facinating opportunities for travel and well paying even as an apprenticeship. There are also many people with lots of contacts to help get into departments and other companies.
Make sure you are ready for a challenging, enagaging and facinating experience and make sure you are hard working, resilient and patient as you won't be able to do what you want to straight away and can be tedious at times but in the long run and would be a great thing to do.
