  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am counted as a production steerer so we ensure that cars move smoothly through the production line and encounter no issues as they progress. If issues to occur then we try to find solutions to try and mitigate risk of dropping units. We also deal with priority vehicles and deadlines in order to satisfy customer demand.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my time in work learning new skills and teaching myself about the production processes. I have also made some very good relationships with my peers and my team making work an enjoyable place to be. Unfortunately, I have not been able start the education side of my apprenticeship yet which does mean I am in work 5 days a week which can be quite exhausting.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Somethings have been extremely well organsised but others have been the complete opposite. Quite often we are notified about things last minute which isn't ideal and can cause some issues with moving things around in my day to day work diary but the things we are actually doing are well organised and can be quite fun. The plalcement plans are more down to each department and mine has been structured very well.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager has organised regular drop in sessions that are extremely helpful, these happen twice a week so that people will always have an opportunity even if they are not in on one day. She is always easily available to contact and makes us aware every week of her working schedule and where she will be each day every week.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Unfortunately, when we started our apprenticeship we were notified by Portsmouth University that they were going to have cancel our January start due to the cohort under performing and us not being able to achieve the highest level. We then spent some time hunting for a new programme but now we have confirmed that we will be starting at Portsmouth University in September,

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • As previously stated I have not yet started my qualification but I have started doing some project management research which has started to help me in some aspects. I feel as though when I begin my actual programme it will hugely benefit me, I will benefit from the leadership knowledge.
