My job role as a Network Designer at BT consist in supprting crrating a culture that supports, designing flawless solution at pace, enabling pur customer's success. I have to prepare network design and, connecting to routers and switches, configure them and modify some part of the configuration as the customer might increase their network.
I have developed many skills in different areas during my time of the apprenticeship, either from the job point of view, but also from the university point of view, especially from the university I have managed to increase my knowledge about referencing, excel skills, presentations skills and most importantly learning about different types of work in an IT industry.
I enjoy that I have to work constantly in different design. Each day is different from.the previous one and this is something I have not encountered in my previous position. Most of the times the job I was doing was very repetitive. Technology is always in development, which means the learning will never stop!
There are areas to improve and other areas where it could excels, as everything in this world. As humans I would say that communication is an area where we always have to improve as I have encountered many communication issues between uni, work and individuals. Overall I am at the beginning of the apprenticeship, I will have a clear idea towards the end.
My employer is providing me a lot of support to achieve my goals. Although at the moment I am finding what I am doing in the university not reconnecting to what I am doing at work, as the things I am doing at work are slightly more advanced. From the work side I am receiving a day for self development which I am using for university assignments.
From my training provider I received supports only to complete certain assignments, which they have put at the end of the scholastic term, outside of that I am not receiving further assistance to achieve outside cerification, which are needed for my role overall. However the training provider is supporting very well with things related to university
In terms of qualifications I haven't received any certificates yet, but in this university environment I have achieved the 1st grade in the first and second term, giving me the opportunity to apply certain skills, such as excel skillspresentation skills and certain methodology which we have studied in the workplace.
Yes, I am trying to get involved in as many activities as possible. Especially, in a Network.we are creating, which is called FCN (Future Career Network). This network has the aim to help new career joiner to network and have a place where to ask question and most importantly feeling included and supported.
Yes
BT is a very big company and also have a lot of career opportunity, they seems very supportive and you are not going to retreat it, as you have the opportunity to.upskill yourselves into different department if you are looking to.
As a new joiner I do.not have many tips or advice. However, as I mentioned before communication is a very important field where someone should focus onto and how this one is delivered, I would.say the pre on boarding and the on boarding process was a bit chaotic and I found myself to communicate with multiple people, where maybe communicating with one in a unique platform would have.improved the experience overall
