  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a Security Specialist, I am responsible for developing and selling security solutions/software to clients. My work involves deep diving into the security softwares and providing input to refine solutions. On a day-to-day basis I deliver demonstrations and presentations of the security solutions, I create and deliver technical proof points, I perform solution designing, I deal with proposals and more.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Through working on various projects and tasks, I have improved my technical abilities in areas such as product architecture and solution design. Additionally, I have been able to enhance my communication and presentation skills by providing input to product teams and delivering demonstrations and presentations. I am continuously learning and growing in this role and am excited for future opportunities to further develop my skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have been enjoying the programme, it has allowed me to develop a strong understanding of the security solutions and their applications. I have been able to collaborate with various teams and gain exposure to different areas of the business, which has been exciting and challenging. The opportunities for learning and growth have been plentiful too.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has provided a clear structure for learning and progression, with regular check-ins and assessments to ensure that I am on track. Additionally, the support I have received from my mentors and colleagues has been incredibly helpful in both learning new skills and feeling a part of the team. The company has worked closely with the training provider to ensure the apprenticeship programme is well organised and communicated effectively, this collaboration has enabled a seamless integration of the programme.

  • From the beginning of my programme, I have received regular feedback and support from my managers and team members. The company has also provided me with various training and development opportunities, which have helped me progress in my role. I feel that I am part of a supportive community that encourages me to take on new challenges and grow in my career.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have received great support from my training provider as I work towards my qualifications. I am able to get into contact with my training provider whenever I need assistance, and they have been very responsive and helpful. Additionally, meetings are set fairly frequently, which helps to keep me on track and motivated.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The training has provided me with a strong foundational and in-depth knowledge of the technical skills required for my job, while also enhancing my problem-solving and critical thinking abilities. I feel the practical approach to learning, and application and hands-on experience have given me a better understanding of how to apply the theory to my work.

  • There are several extra-curricular activities available at my work, including social events, sports teams, and professional networking events. These activities provide opportunities to network with colleagues and other professionals, develop new skills, and build relationships. Additionally, these opportunities are constantly updated and shared with us, so there is always something new to get involved in.

  • Be yourself, the company is interested in individuals with unique backgrounds and experiences, and diversity is valued in the workplace. Do not be afraid to ask questions and demonstrate your eagerness to learn. IBM provides a great working culture with ample opportunities to learn and grow. Do not shy away from new challenges and actively seek out opportunities to expand your skills.
