  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • At BT I work as an Ethernet order manager, which entails me to manage orders between the end user and Openreach. I work with Openreach updates, customer emails and escalations and ensuring the product get's to the end user as quickly as possible. I also set up order trackers for our customers which helps them keep track of their orders.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a range of new skills since the begging of my apprenticeship, for instance the actual job. Also spent a lot of time on LinkedIn learning, learning a range of Microsoft skills to help my personal development. I also learnt a lot people skills on how to speak to customers and write emails in a professional way.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed my programme, it had a mixture of PowerPoint and sheet writing learning, while also doing group/single online sessions. Group sessions were great, they were so interactive and showed a range of perspectives, this also helped me to make some very good friends as the people in my group are also in my office.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The actual programme it's self was ok, other than the fact we had no face to sessions, I understand we had covid for a while but other apprentice groups were getting them and we never did. Further to that, it also took 4 months after my completion date to get my contract in place and I got no backpay

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer was great, I had 2 managers while completing my apprenticeship and they both couldn't have been more helpful. Also the HR team at BT were very supportive throughout my apprenticeship. Also BT have there own apprenticeship ally scheme so there was always someone around to offer a helping hand.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • A lot, I also had 2 training providers when completing my qualification and Luci and Amanda were so supportive in every aspect. Any time I needed help or advice they were both there to support and help me towards completing my apprenticeship, when I would have my one-to-ones they would also push me to achieve my distincation grade and show me what I needed to do.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Hmm, this is a sticky one. Some of the things I did on the course could link to helping the customer service side of this role, however a lot of it didn't align as yes my role is customer service but all the work is more online rather than phone calls some a lot of the practical doesn't really link to my actual role,

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there is a lot of activities to get involved in, at BT they have an apprentice and graduate association where they plan bi-weekly social events to places like junkyard golf, lane7 and a lot more. They also do a lot for charity like sponsored walks or climbs. This can bring you together with a lot of people and many people you don't work with on a daily basis as this will go out to everyone in Manchester so it means you can socialise with new people.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • BT is a great world wide company and an apprenticeship here is a great stepping stone to start your career. However, there is a slight down side as it took 4 months for me to get my contract, working as a full team member for 4 months and not getting the full pay does not make you feel valued.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
  • This is a great place to start working and a great stepping stone to a great career. Howver, be wary about your contract I am not the only person who has been in this position and it really does de-grade you in the sense of not feeling valued by the company.
