I help the sales teams with data analytics, invoice clients, and speak with senior management comparing revenues, trends and opportunities. The role is vast, one day i will be negotiating research budgets with a client and the next i will be in a call discussing an internal technical system that needs to have all revenues feed through it.
I would say that I have developed my organizational skills, having to be on top of routine work while adding ad-hoc tasks was a challenge at first, I also have improved my confidence when speaking and networking, as that is a crucial skill in this role as i am speaking to different teams, internal and external, every day.
The programme has rewarded me with a bachelors of science degree in finance, which i am grateful for, however aside from that i have not enjoyed the experience that much. I have felt way too much stress on the apprenticeship side, and the professional qualification we have to try and pass has only a 30% pass rate for industry professionals with years of experience.
Not well organized at all, we have had three different HR leads while we've been on it, there was a point where i was told i would be kicked off the course for failing an exam, only for that to never be revisited while i stressed for 6 months. i got the idea that the university, the apprenticeship provider, and HR, were never really on the same page with what was the priority and how best to help us succeed.
My line manager and employer overall have been great, as difficult as i found the programme i did always have support from my employer which I am grateful for. I had a regular study day per week and was always given extra time if i asked for it. I also never had to stress and work late if university ran over as this was covered for me.
The training provider didn't help us too much with the CFA exam, all materials they had, e.g practice questions, were already on the CFA website, they had no original content which made it difficult to prepare, we also continued with the degree and portfolio right up until near the professional exam, and on the resit we had our degree dissertation due just a week after, giving us no time to prioritise.
The degree that i have will hopefully now open a lot of doors for me moving forward, i feel confident putting it on my cv. As for the professional qualification, im unsure how much added benefit that will give me as i move forward in my career, as a lot of the people i work for and with dont actually have this
Yes there is, as an example in a few weeks i will be doing a volunteering day for the SportsInspired charity, as well as a dodgeball tournament in June. there are also a lot of clubs you can join to meet new people, hear talks about certain subjects and understand new points of view
Yes
I believe it is a great company to work for, with lots of perks and a friendly working environment with lots of nice people willing to help. the apprenticeship i would be less recommending of but i do feel that even that has its perk in terms of the content you are learning
I would say not to worry too much about how much you know. Finance is such a tough place to understand at first with so many jobs , so many in fact that i barely know what people a few rows a way from me do, as long as the core concepts are understood the rest will follow with hard work on the job
