Apprentice - Business Support (Network Design) Review

My role involves working in our Business Unit, where I'm responsible for working and designing Network Implementation Plans, and making changes to our Global Client Networks. Alongside that, I'm responsible for helping to design the changes that are made by our implementation teams, working on projects to migrate and update Hardware onto elements such as CISCO ACI.

Skills that I've developed while working at BT include, working on my CISCO Certified Network Administrator certification for work that I do in line with my role, alongside working on other technical certifications such as BIG-IP F5 Certified Administrator. I'm also training in developing PowerPoints and other documents in a visually accessible format, for people who may have visual impairments.

I really enjoy my program, the people who I work with are fabulous and they are really good at grasping complex issues, and supporting me in developing complex solutions which we can automate and save time in the future. I love this program, because it's got such a wide depth of scope for what we can learn, challenge and develop.

The program is structured well, so we have a good amount of time to do both our personal, professional development, alongside our university work, allowing for apprentices to have a smoother transition into quite the complex role that I work in with giving us the right support that we need.

I have access to a wide range of support from my employer, ranging from mental and physical wellbeing support, to academic support and technical support with my professional development in the case that I need to access support. My line manager, is also equipped with the right documentation given from me making her aware of my conditions.

We receive regular academic feedback from our module tutors, when working on our qualifications, alongside progress review tests in each module to check our learning. We also have a regular meeting with the course leader to provide feedback for how the modules can be changed and developed in future to accommodate current workplace needs.

My qualification through my training provider helps me preform better within my role, to ensure that we have a fundamental understanding of larger concepts, and taking a view of the bigger picture so we can always take steps back and see where processes need improving, but more than that, look at practically achieving them.

A lot of the extra curricular that I work with at my work, involve early careers, helping manage and run a school's outreach program, where we can promote BT Apprenticeships and Apprenticeships in general alongside the rest of our early careers programs is a really engaging opportunity to work with young people.

Yes

It's a great company with a large history, but more than that it's looking to the future on how it can improve and change to adapt with the times. It also recognises the importance of apprentices, as part of that journey and values us with the same amount as any new employee.

Be yourself, primarily that is it, but BT is looking for individuals who are passionate about things, they want to use that passion towards your work, and what you want to learn and train in. If you are passionate, personal and can just be who you are, and if you don't know something say, and that you'd be happy to learn it, then that's the best advice I can give.
