The audits of a range of companies, some smaller companies, others are listed entities. I also help with audits on a range of different sectors including both corporate entities and not for profit. Each day is different whether that be working on a new client or a new audit area within the company.
Through my daily tasks I have developed a range of skills, most predominantly, I have learnt how to interact with the finance teams of different firms, and working with all levels of management up to their CFOs. I have also developed my project management skills and coaching of the younger team members.
What I really enjoy about the programme is the variety of work I get to be a part of. I also am able to spend time travelling to different clients in new areas of the country and work with new teams for each audit, this keeps the work interesting. I also enjoy the integration of the learning.
Our courses are organised by a professional qualifications team who liase with the BPP education provider, to organise our apprenticeship activities and our exams. The course is well structured and organised with regular check in meetings between our own people managers and those who track our progress within BPP. This ensures we stay on track and have the support we need.
My experience is that I receive a lot of support from my employer to complete my training programme. This includes paid leave for studying and completing my apprenticeship activities and also by providing support where necessary with my people manager. This has been key to my success within the firm as I progress.
BPP as my training provider provide all of the study materials and classes necessary for my course, they also mark the mocks which we complete for each exam. This is a really helpful resource to have when completing the ACA especially when there is a lot of content to cover, they can provide guidance to help you in the right direction.
I think the ACA qualification through BPP as a training provider is essential to me performing my role as an semi senior auditor, it provide a huge amount of the technical understanding I need to work day to day with audited entities and finance teams. My understanding from the ACA has greatly improved my knowledge.
Within the firm there are a range of different social committees, divided by different offices and sectors, due to my work in different areas of audit, it it common for people to attend more than one event organised by committees which allows for people to network with other sectors as well as spend time with those they have previously worked with.
Yes
I would recommend BDO to a friend as I believe the culture of the firm is different to other audit firms. There is a huge drive towards making sure people have the correct support that they need as well as care for their mental wellbeing and I think this is very important.
The tips I would give to anyone applying at BDO, would be to definitely make sure your personality shows when you go through the progress, from this I think they can see if you're a good fit for the firm and have the potential to grow in this environment.
