Network Engineer Review

I'm currently working as a project manager which consists of many different tasks such as: Taking on different projects reviewing them creating a scope for the project and talking to different stakeholders and people that can help with the project. I also make sure that every individual task is progressing accordingly.

I have developed many skills whilst working in project management such as communication skills, different management tools, simple things such as using new software and writing professional emails, and a wider technical knowledge of the network and how it works. I've also picked up different skills from the university side of the apprenticeship which will be relevant to my day-to-day job mainly to do with networking.

I'm really enjoying the programme here at BT, I've learnt so much which will help me throughout my career. I have been supported during the apprenticeship and everyone has been really nice and welcoming. It's great to be able to experience all of this whilst doing a degree.

My programme is very well structured. Whilst Uni is on my week consists of 1 day at Uni, a study day and three days of work, during my time at work I'm progressing any projects that have been assigned to me/or working on. I think there is a really good balance of work and study time for the educational part of the programme.

Throughout my apprenticeship I have received a significant amount of support, I can go to anyone in my team with any queries without having to worry whether or not they will try to help. My manager has been great in helping me achieve my goals and I'm sure this will continue throughout.

I think the overall support from the training provider has been good, however, there is always room for improvement and I think it depends on the lecturer as I have seen examples of both excellent and not-so-helpful support during my time with Uni. Overall I think the support from the training provider could be improved but it's not necessarily due to the training provider and depends on how you learn and which ways of teaching are effective for you.

My qualification has been very relevant to my role so far. The networking modules have been particularly useful because they've provided me with the knowledge needed to efficiently progress with different projects by helping me to understand different technical terms and to be able to identify different pieces of equipment.

There are plenty of extra-curricular activities to get involved in whilst working at BT. My team tend to organise different events outside of work whether it's a meal, going to the pub or even mini golf. There has also been a football match event to raise money for cancer research.

Everyone here is very kind and supportive which makes the job really enjoyable and something to look forward to. There are many benefits available to people who work for BT and you get to study for a degree debt-free whilst gaining valuable experience and skills in the workplace which is what employers are looking for.

Do research into the company and really gain an understanding of our principles and what type of work we do and use that knowledge in your interview to show the interviewers how dedicated and hard-working you are, whilst showing them some of the skills you may have already and why they're relevant to your role.
