I currently work the starters section but can move to the deserts section, potwash section and I am being trained to work on carvery section and mains section I am primarily on starters section and usually only move sections to cover for someone's break and then at the end of the day i need to clean up all of the sections
I have developed communication skills by working carvery section and have gained alot more confidence in speaking to people I don't know I have also learned to tolerate rude behaviour from customers and colleagues, I have learned to organise myself throughout the day alot better too so I can be more efficient and effective around the kitchen
I have enjoyed working here because I've gotten to know alot of the staff that work here who have become good friends who I will still speak too long after I work here and am very satisfied with the learning experience I've had and skills I can move on with
It is quite well organised I get called by my learning coach every week or 2 so he can see where I'm upto and update me on what the best thing I can be doing is at that moment, we also have monthly face to face meetings where he shows me what I can be doing better and he sees where I am upto with my learning
The chefs I work with and the managers and assistant managers are all very helpful with my learning mainly the senior chefs because they show me in depth and explain everything we do around the kitchen and how to not break any laws while also making food proper and well
My learning coach is very helpful as when we do face to face meetings If I don't understand anything with my coursework he will explain it in great detail to make sure I understand, my learning provider gives me alot of coursework to get through to assist with my learning aswell
The qualifications I will be getting through finishing this apprenticeship will make getting a job much easier and will look very good in my cv, the experience working is very helpful to me aswell as it has made me more confident around the workplace and just a more confident person in general
The only extra curricular activity we do in our work is usually just covering a shift for someone or occasionally we will do like a cook off or extra training like a personal training session to learn a breakfast shift or how to improve on carvery or just general improvement
Yes
I have been treated very well and have learned alot or skills since I've started working for marstons and also met alot of good friends and everyone is also offered a fair wage which is above the national minimum wage this job also doesn't require any qualifications so it's not a difficult job to get
When starting I would recommend to cover as many shifts as you can when you start as this will help build friendships with your colleagues and the getting started and training experience will be much quicker and beneficial to you this will also show that your are keen to learn and pick up hours
