In my day to day role, I mainly complete due diligence for all currently onboarded clients and ensure they do not exceed risk levels. I also complete checks on the workload of other analysts and help manage new apprentices by teaching them how to use front office systems and manage their workload.
I have definitely developed my attention to detail in this role as you are required to look into a large volume of document and find any small or adverse mentions of the clients. This has forced me to be more diligent when completing work. I also have developed communication and leadership skills when teaching others how to use systems effectively. However given I specialize in my job role I do not learn much day to day.
I am able to enjoy this programme due to the supportive management team I am privileged to have and my peers who are very happy to help and cover me if I do not have capacity for my role. The people at UBS make the job much more enjoyable and durable through heavy workload. The university workload however is indeed difficult and takes a lot of time to grasp.
Given that I was amongst the first year to complete the degree apprenticeship at UBS, there have been a lot of changes and developments during the course that have been slightly confusing. Nonetheless, there is always support staff and mentors who can talk you through any changes and who you are able to raise concerns with.
There is a lot of support available at UBS at a variety of levels. I have very supportive managers who are happy to give me extra time to study in my work hours if I am overwhelmed and mentors to support me on the apprenticeship portfolio side when in need.
I am glad to say that although there may be difficulties at times, the training providers do take on feedback and listen to concerns of the students to be proactive about making it most suitable for the apprentices. Nonetheless, the course is very difficult and takes a lot of individual study.
The qualifications you will receive in this apprenticeship definitely contribute towards the role at work. 50% of the content learnt I would say directly or indirectly provides more information concerning your role and the regulation surrounding it. Often, this can give greater understanding of why you must take certain measures or carry out certain processes.
I am of the cube network which connects black employees to job opportunities and connections in different areas of the bank which is really good for job progression. I also do take volunteering opportunities whenever possible which allows me to teach students about apprenticeship opportunities and let them know what options are available to them.
Yes
It is definitely a very friendly and supportive environment which can be rare to find in such corporations. I have definitely had an experience i would never exchange and have been put at a great advantage given i will finish with qualifications, a degree and 4 years of work experience along with friends.
I would advise showing your curiosity and interests by getting involved in some finance related interactive opportunities or maybe attending ones held at UBS. I would say it is also important to ask as many in depth questions as possible and show you are proactive and willing to learn at UBS,
