  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Improving IT processes for the client account and/or implementing suppliers in to the existing IT infrastructure of the business. Job roles consists mainly of meetings and discussions with stakeholders on the client side to fully understand processes to develop improvements and how changes we make will impact them

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt quite a lot over the course of the apprenticeship. I started in the project manager space and learned how projects are managed with IT. Then I moved to my current role and learned a lot more about processes in companies and how to communicate with the client

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme reasonably well. I didn't in the first year or 2 as I personally did not like the project manager area. I assumed my role would be more technical going in to it but you can end up with any role. The degree side itself can be draining, especially in the third year where you will have picked up more experiences and responsibility and now have to do a degree alongside it.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The degree side itself from Aston is fairly well organised. There can be some annoyances but nothing that will set you back in your degree. The programme on the company side varies a lot depending on which business area you go in to. Personally, there was no structure when I started in my business area and it caused quite a bit of stress. It is good to find out during the interview stage if you're one of the first apprentice intakes to that business unit or not.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is a pretty good amount of support. It has gotten better over the years and there are now calls in place to discuss issues with the apprenticeship team. Capgemini is also good at supporting you as an employee especially if you end up with a decent review manager who can push to get you in to stretch roles.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Aston offers a lot of support. You are treated as a normal student in most cases so you can freely use their usual support services that most universities are pretty good at. You can also email or book calls with your lecturers and they respond to questions pretty quickly and in a fair amount of detail if needed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The degree has a lot of different modules and there are 2 tracks you can choose. I went for the business analyst route and this had some modules such as accounting and business economics that, while not directly applicable, do improve your overall knowledge and help you perform better in your role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • This will depend on your business unit and what project you are on. There are social activities and professional networking events every quarter within my business unit but some others dont have that. Sports teams do exist for those interested and I have seen informal ones created in one of the teams groups so that is also an option.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Capgemini is quite supportive with your career development. You can also switch between different business units if you want a change in your career. There are a lot of options in a big company such as this. The degree is a nice to have but it's the value of being able to grow through different projects and meeting an extensive amount of professionals which really help. I also find that most people in Capgemini are kind and happy to offer help.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
  • You don't need to be the most confident person in the world but make sure you're getting involved and speaking up with what you think during the assessment centre. Make sure you understand generally about the business and ask questions about what role you'll be doing specifically, what is the team like etc. Show that you're interested and trying to learn more about your potential future role.
