I assist the team in auditing financial accounts, dealing with a range of financial statement areas. My day is widely based around the priorities of the audit and the tasks with the highest priority, and so my task variation is very wide.
I have mainly learnt the skills of auditing, but have also picked up skills such as professional scepticism, the ability to work amongst a large team, and the art of time management which has been vital within my role.
I enjoy my programme to a high extent because i feel that it is unique in providing opportunities for networking alongside opening doors that are not accessible from other learning pathways such as degrees. The work environment is friendly and compliments my enjoyment of every day work.
My programme is very well structured from an exam point of view. The company ensure that I am updated with all exam dates and times well in advance so that I can prepare. However, I feel like more study time would be helpful when revising!
I receive adequate support from my employer, both on the side of learning and working. There are teams dedicated to supporting my progress and feel that they are accessible at all times.
I receive adequate support from my training provider, with study materials and access to tutors whenever required.
I feel like my qualification helps to build on the knowledge i have gained within the workplace. Equally, my on-the-job experience is complementing my learning.
There are plenty of social events arranged by the social community, both company wide and sector wide. There are also sporting events to take part in which cater for all preferences.
Yes
Because there is a huge focus on bringing trainees through the firm and hence, quite a young group of staff. I feel like BDO really encourage the learning process throughout the course, as well as slowly implementing job responsibility in to my daily workings.
Although it is common advice, being yourself is something that matters to the seniors at BDO, and there is a strong emphasis on being comfortable at work to assist in reaching maximum potential. Professionalism is key, but BDO strongly value equality within the workplace and the culture that it brings.
