  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme has been very beneficial. I am a school leaver coming to the end of my training agreement. I therefore didn't have a professional qualification and this programme has allowed me to gain vital work experience as well as study towards the ACA qualification and therefore have a globally recognised qualification at the end of the programme.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has been very structured. I have been given support my both my employer and training provider. We get given very good time off to work towards exams and other activities needed on the programme. In terms of work experience, your audit portfolio is planned far in advance and you can therefore see your future engagements and how best to plan.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer offers a range of excellent support. At the time of joining, I was allocated a Buddy who was able to help with any questions I had about the programme and the future. I also had a counselling manager who I was able to ask questions and escalate any issues I had. We got time off to work towards exams and other needs, which is very helpful to focus and get the exams passed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • There's many benefits of learning about accounting, audit and finance that can be directly translated into the field of work. Learning how to identify risks and testing can help on audits and this was part of many exams I was involved in. I also learnt about financial accounting and this allowed me to understand journals and how adjustments need to be raised on an audit.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many social events that take place at BDO. We have regular social activities in our specific sectors within BDO as the full place of work has too many people. Therefore we split and set fun work events to get everyone engaged and meeting new people. We also have sporting teams which play hockey, netball, cricket and football during the year.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BDO to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Its an awesome place to work. You are able to learn so much about the financial and audit world and get involved with large or small clients. Therefore you can focus on your interests and be involved in audits that are in line with your interests. You get valuable support during your training as well as meeting new people and having a great time.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BDO?
  • I would make sure you know exactly what audit involves as for some individuals, the audit world is not for them. You also need to ensure you know that your will be working towards a professional qualification and that comes with its pressures and stress. There's times of long hours of work as this is what is expected at a large firm.
