I work in the service charge department within BSO, this involves undertaking service charge assurance engagements where we look at service charge accounts provided by managing agents and review the expenditure relating to the site. I have daily contact with clients and often have meetings with them. I am the main exec on one of the larger clients and take on training roles when required
I have learnt how to time manage effectively, i am studying and working at the same time which requires me to split my time efficiently to ensure all the work i need to complete each done is done. I have also improved my team working skills by collaborating with the team daily
I enjoy learning about the technical aspects of accounting in college and then being able to apply them in the work place. I also have the opportunity to get started on my career early which has opened doors which i would have never been able to experience had i gone to university
I am doing a 4 year program with structured exams and college dates, we have time to study for exams and set periods for exams. I then work in between this whilst studying, the structure is good but also challenging at times when balancing everything. It really tests your ability to multitask
I get study days off work to work towards qualification, this helps to provide time to study for exams. We also have the opportunity to take annual leave to help with study, I can also flex my hours in order to study at the times which suit my learning style best
We have college days with in person lectures and also access to pre-recorded content. I can then ask for help over email or on the hub which is an online learning portal with content. We have mock exams marked which provides feedback on knowledge and access to other materials to help
The training provided has built my basic accountancy skills which i have developed in my job role, we also develop different accountancy skills through each exam. My qualification also has some skills and behaviours activities which help to improve other skills which are not specifically learnt through exams and college
We have team socials every quarter where an activity takes place and we socialise as a team, some members are based outside of Bristol so is nice to all be together and catch up with colleagues. There has been a few whole office events which mean you are able to meet others within different departments
Yes
BDO has opened up my opportunities which i would have never had access to through university, i work with incredibility talented and senior individuals on a day to day basis and have access to many senior members of staff within my team which i can learn from, BDO allows you to explore your potential to the max
Be confident in your ability but also willing to learn lots of new skills and be open minded to the opportunities available to you. Try to built a wide range of skills which you can showcase and be able to built on, everyone has different strengths so be sure to use them to your advantage, whilst also benefiting the business
