  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role day to day involves daily meetings with my team, communicating with stakeholders to help me develop solutions for customers. My role also involves helping out new apprentices. For the majority of my apprenticeship I've been working from home which I found has suited me perfectly to work most effectively.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have learnt about low code platforms like OutSystems as well traditional languages such as ReactJS. I have also learnt about how to work in an agile way using Scrum framework and the various sotware to assist with this like jira and confluence. I feel very confident in working this way.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Very much so, my programme has helped me identify what I enjoy and what I don't enjoy. I know have a clear idea of where I want to progress to in my career and have a clear plan of where I want to go next. The programme provides a good platform for this

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Quite well structured, one thing I'll say is for most of the time on the programme I wasn't aware that level 5 units can form part of one method of determining my final grade which led to underwhelming results for those units. Overall I'm satisfied with the strucuture

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer has been very supportive, if ever I've been overwhelmed with balancing work and my studies then in the past I've been allocated extra time at work to get on top of my studies but the key is to use this sparingly and don't take the mick. Obviously if from time to time you may occasionally need the extra time from work on studying then that can be looked into.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I'd say it's quite mixed, some lecturers will be very supportive and responsive whereas the odd lecturer won't be. I'd say in my final 2 academic years the academic support has been good overall. The BIS lecturer in particular was amazing given my wellbeing struggles I've been facing.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It teaches me the importance of time management to balance both university and my job. This is a key part of doing my job effectively anyway so its important to teach you the importance of time management and organisational skills. The degree compliments the job very well I do feel.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • there are monthly office days to encourage the whole department to go into the office once a month, many activities are held like bringing in cakes, having a kick about at lunch and encouraging to go for a meal in the evening after work. There is a real effort to bring people together socially but of course partaking is optional

  • 9a. Would you recommend Fujitsu to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a warm, friendly and positive place to work with a good environment and a working model of hybrid working that supports all types of employees to perform at their best, if you perform better in an office then thats always open for you, if you work better remotely then this is encouraged also.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Fujitsu?
  • Try to enjoy it, it can be harder to when you get sucked into how big this company is but make the most of the opportunities there are, just because you join as a developer for example if you find overtime that something else takes your fancy then go and explore it, talk and network with people across the organisation if you find a role that suits you better.
