  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am based within the 'Tech Centre' and in my role we get machines delivered to us, usually from Romania or other places that they are built, and we put them on our test beds and we carry out the arranged tests that the customer has requested and we make sure that the machines are up to standard.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a few skills so far, since joining Cummins. For example, communication plays a big part within my work space as we work with people who have different roles but they work with the same machines, so communicating between each other is useful to keep a positive work flow.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really it enjoy it at my site and learning new things everyday with my team, the only downside is the college side of things. Grantham college is terrible and have no communication with their students and they don't seem to care much about the education that they are meant to be providing.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Within my work site side of things, I have access to everything I need and have more than enough people around me to talk to and ask questions about things that I am struggling with or finding hard to understand. College on the other hand doesn't have any structure, in fact, they don't even have a course plan for my course and I am 7 months into it.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • At work I have all the support needed, whether its from my boss/manager himself or if he's busy then I have plenty of knowledgeable guys within my team to help me and even the people who are not part of my specific team but work at my site are all very useful and helpful if I ever need their help with anything.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • At college, we don't have much support. There is one tutor who I have been going to about problems I may have and he has helped a lot and the best he can which I really appreciate, however he will be leaving the college soon because he even said how poorly Grantham college is and how they treat their students. So once he leaves, I've not really got any support at college.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Not very well. Everything I have learnt about my role I have learnt at work on site. Grantham college haven't even got a course plan sorted for my course which I have been on for the past 7 months. They have not helped me at all within my role and I am currently trying to get through to them with my boss to try and sort this out.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At work, there are things like networking that i have done a bit of and at the moment i am currently a part of a programme that we are running at a primary school to help the kids get a look into what its like to be an engineer and within that programme there are people from different Cummins sites which i have been able to connect with from there.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Cummins to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because they have been extremely supportive through my two major lung surgeries i had when i started and they continue to constantly help me and help me learn and find other things even outside of my role to involved in to give me a better insight of what the business is all about.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cummins?
  • Show that you are enthusiastic and that you are willing to learn and to go for it because you get to connect with people from all over the world and everyone is very supporting and it is a great company to start you career with because of how knowledgeable everyone is and they support you throughout the apprenticeship
