My day begins prep (8.30 - 9.00) to catch up on e-mails and any updates. Usually have Catch-up meetings with Project managers & collegues (9.00 - 10.00) then finally deep work(10.00 - 12.00). lunchbreak (12.00-13.00) After lunch, I take time to reflect on the work I've done and record this in my day-to-day diary. My responsibilities for my role are assisting with the production of design models using software like AutoCAD, MicroDrainage.
Skills I've learned are using design software like AutoCAD, MicroDrainage, OpenRoads. Quality Control software like ProjectWise & BIM360 with are Central Data Environments where all stakeholders of the project have access to all project data. Improved on my presentation skills and interpersonal skills. Improved my time management as it is vital to be successful
I really enjoy the Degree Apprenticeship programme because I gain valuable knowledge from on-the-job learning from experience personnel that are passionate about the field they're in. I really enjoy the DA programme because of the great support around the company and the university rendered to me has build confidence in me.
The University programme is well structured and the training programme at Arcadis is well organised. There are areas of improvement which include better collaboration between the University mentor and Office mentor because this would reduce ambiguity around what is expected for my role. Better collaboration could be used to monitor the work load of the apprentice as it is a difficult undertaking to balance work-uni-life
The support received from my employer is immeasurable. My line manager connects me to colleagues that have expertise that align with what I am studying at uni. This has been very helpful as it consolidates learning when you get to put it into practice at work. I have received so much support personally and professionally
The support received from my training provider is immeasurable. I have a work-based learning advisor and he's support has involved advising the sort of experience I required to achieve my goals, as well as advising on how to produce ICE reports that are in line with the reports required for uni.
I feel that my qualification motivates me to continue learning which I feel helps me to perform better in my role because I learn something new everyday. The training provider really urges the growth mindset which urges one to continue the pursuit of learning because everyday is a learning day.
Yes there are many social and networking events. I've attended some social like christmas parties or the seasonal socials. We have a 5-aside football team and the 2 Scotland based office play against each other over summer. Networking events I've attended involved all the new graduates and apprentices, It was great.
Yes
I would recommend Arcadis because of the great working environment as everyone I've met is accommodating and willing to share and pass on knowledge. They have a great career progression guideline for all roles and they promote the growth mindset! Last but not least, they are very inclusive and diverse at all levels
