I perform analytical testing on our products to ensure safety and efficacy for the consumer. I also help to qualify new raw materials and suppliers, as well as helping to respond to regulatory changes.
I have developed highly effective communication skills, and am now able to communicate and delegate tasks to stakeholders in my project scheme. I have learned in detail how to use various analytical techniques, and develop new methods using these techniques.
I really enjoy the varied aspect of the programme. As well as doing the core chemistry modules, we have been able to explore the realms of analytical chemistry, sustainable chemistry and how our industry works (e.g. regulatory requirements and safety)
The programme has, in the past, been quite disorganised, however I believe this is due to the programme being brand new. Those leading the programme have made a huge effort to provide a clearer structure for the apprentices, and the programme is now much more organised.
I have a very supportive network of mentors/managers around me, who all provide advice on various factors. They support me in my day-to-day role, helping me to gain a greater understanding of the industry. They also are very supportive in my studies, and provide help wherever they can.
There is a huge amount of support from the tutors at the university, and they are always available for us to contact should we have any queries or require support. I very often contact my tutors for help with my studies when I am struggling to understand.
The business modules in particular have been of huge benefit to me in my role. I have been able to understand how to help influence change in my workplace to improve efficiencies, for example.
There are many different activities to get involved with, from sport to charity events. There are focus groups such as ones for women and those in the LGBTQ+ community and their allies. On a professional level, there are many opportunities to develop skills through workshops and training.
