My role in BAE System entails me to go around the business and do 4x4 month placements on top of training in the training centre for the first 6 months and a 1 year placement in my final year. This can range from technician to design or even project management.
I have learned so many skills in my time of BAE systems. This includes how to talk to colleagues in a proper professional manner, what a good company should look like, a lot about RADAR, Making decisions for the future of a project (supervised) and finally independence due to me moving away for this apprenticeship
I absolutely adore my program. I am very proud of my work no matter where I am in the company and I am very thankful for the opportunity BAE systems has given me to better myself. Since I enjoy my job so much there is never a day I dread going into work.
My programme is very well organised, the training services at BAE systems Portsmouth do a wonderful job of keeping their apprentices safe and ensure the apprentices know what they are doing. The programme has a strong structure to ensure no one gets behind or falls off tracks. Overall very good.
Personally I do not ask for much direct support. However the times that I have (i.e. buying a new place) my employers were the first to help me and got the paperwork back to me instantly. If I ever need support in terms of learning resources my employers are always the first to help.
My training provider provides a strong amount of support but not more than necessary. There are teachers who stay late at the end of the day to ensure any pupils that require assistance get the help they need. A lot of resources are provided to us as well in the library and other facilities.
My qualification helps me perform better due to its ability to make me more competent. I learn many engineering practises through my training provider which are used in the real world of employment. I also do many calculations that are taught to me by my training provider which prove to be useful.
I have previously been in the surf club. We went on a surf trip which was really really fun, we all stayed in a hostel and went surfing in Newquay so that we really enjoy able and great for me to meet all the graduates. There are many other clubs that work hold but i am not apart of them.
Yes
I have recommended it to a friend because I have really enjoyed my apprenticeship. You meet so many new people and learn so much about the world of engineering that is so important. I think there's no reason not to apply to a company such as BAE if your an engineering starter.
My advice would be to give the apprenticeship your everything and make sure you make as many connections as possible because connections are forever useful in an engineering industry. I also recommend to not be afraid to ask people questions because an apprentice is here to learn so its very important to ask questions. Some of the best engineers I know started off as apprentices.
