  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves various different reconciliations and adjustments to the accounts within the department I work in. At the end of the month, I analyse the actual costs and expected costs to ensure the accounts are accurate and post any adjustments if required. Mid month I complete balance sheets to recognise the balances due with any supporting evidence. These are known as balance sheets.

  • In my apprenticeship I have learned new accounting skills through my CIMA studies. I have also developed skills through additional skills days provided in the apprenticeship programme. Examples of these days so far have been team building and leadership. In my role I have gained efficiencies and greater understanding of the correct accounting treatments in a very large company.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is structured well in that I can fit the studies and tutoring around my work. The courses are spread out well in that there isn’t too much time in between each exam but enough time for me to fully understand the topic and get an exam in before the next module starts.

  • My employer ensures that I get the time off to attend study days and pays for the exams and subscriptions. My manager is supportive of the studies and is flexible in when I take time out to complete study and exams as long as I ensure that my day to day work is completed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • First intuition are helpful when any questions have been asked and the tutors seem knowledgeable and helpful in the lessons. They structure the course well and the materials seem of good quality.
