  • Electricity network knowledge along with authorisations gained to enter and supervise whilst on a live substation

  • No two days are the same, and I enjoy working within a project team which wants me to get the most out of the program

  • It is structured reasonably well, as this is the first year my employer has offered this opportunity - there is constantly ways that improvements can be made being discussed.

  • There is a wealth of resource and experience available from my employer to refer to and ask questions.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The distance learning is great! Again the resources and help that is available to students is amazing considering we are only on campus once every twelve weeks.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Certain topics and modules are very relatable and create a greater understanding, but due to the industry I am in being very specialist it is hard for the training provider to be specific to said industry.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have had team building events with ourselves and our contractors. Always good to be able to speak to people away from the workplace.

  • 9a. Would you recommend SSE to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • There is a lot of work available within the transmission business unit in the next 10 to 15 years.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to SSE?
  • It is what you make of it, benefits are on par with most other large capital construction companies but job security is there.
