The daily task involves travelling on-site to different clients across various sectors. I also assist the senior trainee or assistant manager on the job with different sections in the engagement. This means working with the finance team and discuss certain actions on how to perform testing for each account such as Expenses, Payroll etc.
I am currently working towards the ACA qualification and I have completed all the certificate exams. The Open Door training at BDO was brilliant which allowed us to gain deeper insights about audit and audit quality. Furthermore, I met all the intake across all offices in the UK and made many friends that I still keep in touch. Personally, I have learnt a lot of skill until now i.e time management, ethic codes, and networking skills.
One of the most challenging thing about the apprenticeship is that you need to be able to balance between work and study. It can be very challenge when you are booked on the long project and study after work hours. BDO's culture is great - make sure you communicate with your team and ask for support when you need because everyone have been through this, all team members understand that when exams are on the way, it is important. This is what I really like about working at BDO
The structure of the programme is well-structured and planned as BDO has many years of experience of intakes. Initially, we had an official induction day in London where intakes across the country attended a day in London and met some senior leaders of the company. Then we have few weeks for college, which was the first three exams of ACA. Afterward, we had 2 Open Door trainings before we started the our first engagement which was really helpful in term of providing us essential audit knowledge.
The support from BDO was great as we have a team that look after all the training/exams/courses when we have questions to ask. Also, most of the seniors and managers in the team were familiar with the study and exams as they have been through by themselves. They were understanble and helpful when you have exam on the way.
BPP is awesome training provider. The course content notes and online resources are easy to understand and accessible. I think the forums for questions is brilliant as the tutors are so helpful and usually get back to your questions quickly. The support I received so far from Bpp and BDO is great
The breadth of knowledge that I gained from studying my qualification will allow me to work on wide range of projects and clients giving me variety in my work whilst helping me to develop my professional skills.
As a first trainee, you wont be able to join any specific sectors until your first year completes, however you will join the trainee group where we will have social drinks and night out with other intakes in your group.
Yes
The oppurtunities it opens up are invaluable and reasonable time off for study leaves.
Apply as soon as the vacancies are available. Be confident and be yourself when it comes to online assessment and assessment centre. Make sure you are aware of what is going on with the world and especially audit if you are applying for audit role.
