I am a UK private client tax advisor. I draft reports for clients on different taxes. I draft proposals to clients to win work and attend prospect and client calls.
Yes, report writing, communication skills, commercial knowledge.
I really enjoy my job. I have a great team and find the work challenging, but interesting.
There is a good exam structure because I have an exam pathway that was set out for me at the start of the programme, but the other elements of the apprenticeship are much less well structured.
It has improved over the 2 years I have been employed as they got a new team, but I still think there is work to do. We also do not get the choice of taught college for every exam which would be helpful.
It is not always clear where to get support and they do not always make it clear what you need to do. Revision college is really helpful though.
As my role is tax and so far I have only done ACA accounting exams, the usefulness is limited. However, I think the CTA tax exams will be really helpful when I study for them.
Yes, there are a lot of activities on offer.
Yes
I think there is a good culture and I work with like minded people in the tax team.
Do not just pick audit because it is the first thing you think of. I think people often apply to audit because they do not know what else is on offer so do some research before applying.
