  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work on a variety of clients performing reviews on their controls and processes. This includes walk through of processes with the client, review of policies and procedures, sample testing controls and procedures, writing up any issues win reports and discussion with the client to offer recommendations from the findings.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned a multitude of skills since starting my role. One of which is learning to work on multiple reviews at one time which I used to struggle with when I first joined. Another skill I have developed is dealing with clients on a regular basis and learning to communicate issues in a way which is easy to understand and not provoking to the client but coming from a place of advice and support. I have also developed strong Excel skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My programme has given me the opportunity to work on a plethora of reviews and clients, giving me chance to get a broad understanding and experience of the financial world. The team I work with has provided strong support when needed and made the experience really enjoyable. The work life balance is also really good.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structured with everyone in the team very understanding about exams and the stress they bring. Th programme initially was meant to be a rotation of sectors, however, I was predominantly working with Public sector clients for the first year and a half. Since then I have been moved into the Financial Services team which has been a much more positive experience.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive lots of support when required. Someone is always available if I am struggling with something at work and need advice. My employer is also very understanding when it comes to exams and a lot of support is provided when necessary. There are also mental health first aiders available if needed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a decent amount of support from BPP. I am quite hands off in terms of support required from BPP but whenever I have needed support they are more than happy to help and any of the taught courses I go to are really useful and very well organised.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification does not directly relate to my role, however, there are a lot of things that I learn which can be applied to certain reviews that I do for clients. There are also a lot of definitions and terms which I learn through my qualification that I understand when I see them in my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • No, there aren't any extra-curricular activities that I get involved in at work. There are opportunities for this and I am made aware of them by the relevant teams at my work, I just have not chosen to get involved in them at this stage. I potentially will in the future.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Forvis Mazars to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Mazars to a friend because they are a very considerate and understanding employer with a focus on work life balance and not just working long hours every day. The culture of the firm is great and everyone I meet at Mazars is always so friendly and kind no matter which team they are in.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Forvis Mazars?
  • The advice I would give to others applying to Mazars LLP would be to make sure you have a good understanding of the role you are going into and also to make sure you have a good understanding of any qualification you will be doing. I give this advice because I see many people leave when they realise how tricky the exams are whilst working at the same time. It's definitely doable and many people are ok with it, I just advise knowing what you're getting into!
