As a first year apprentice our role is to attend college 5 days a week to gain a level of competence in an engineering environment before we return to site at the beginning of our second year.
I have learnt many new skills such as surface mount soldering, circuit design using CAD software, how to cut and shape metal, drill, tap and ream holes, counter sink, counter bore holes, fault find electronic circuits, produce electronic circuits and developed IT, Maths and English skills as part of the standard.
It is very well structured and runs in 6 week blocks so you know exactly what you’ll be doing every 6 weeks for the duration of the first year.
We receive plenty of support from our employer with constant reviews through the year.
We receive plenty of support from all the trainers who provide resources and time to help anyone who needs it.
The qualification and experience gained will help enormously to help perform better in my role as it has given me the basic skills needed to be a competent engineer.
