  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role consists of communicating with clients and maintaining relationships, including negotiation of fees and engagements and the general running of the process across the year. It also includes the preparation, review, finalisation and submission of corporation tax computations and supporting computations, that include tax accounting schedules for inclusion in statutory financial statements.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to properly communicate in a professional manner with both internal and external contacts, which includes that of clients that are engaged with the firm, and staff in other teams within my firm and also external firms that are engaged in other services for the relevant client.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed my programme thoroughly as it has taken me from being a sixth form student to being a tax and accounting professional and adviser via my school leaver route. Being a school leaver and joining at 18 has also been a great experience as I have learnt vauable work experience as well as being remunerated and able to work towards my qualification.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structured as it is clear and concise in its distinguishing between work commitments as well as where study leave needs to be taken for the exams that are sat across the pathway. It has been clear when to complete exams, when I am required for jobs at work and when my appraisals are.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer supports me well throughout my qualification and job role and I am given the required study leave where needed to sit exams as well as support on the job with daily work tasks that I may need assistance with. HR calls however are a negative where exam fails have occurred as this increases pressure.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a decent level of support regarding my qualification, I am granted study leave wherever it is needed and my team are understanding of the time needed to sit an exam and the preparation work required. However the support hasn't been there in unfortunate circumstances with an exam fail as I have been pressured and reminded that my contract could be terminated.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The accounting side of the qualification only helps to a certain extent, I am a tax professional and so accounting knowledge only helps me understand what other departments do. However there is also a tax qualification I am doing which massively benefits my role and helps to enhance me to become a better overall tax adviser.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There a high amount of networking events that I am able to attend, that come both in the form of internal staff conferences as well as external events where I can represent Mazars and try to help encourage recruitment. There are no sports teams that I am aware of however.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Forvis Mazars to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Mazars LLP is a great firm to work for with a strong reputation, as they help to enhance individuals that don't have any accounting experience and turn them into professional advisers and help to obtain professional qualifications which can be used later on in professional careers. There is a good firm culture and a social aspect that is of high value.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Forvis Mazars?
  • I would say to make sure to put in the hard work that is required with both completing the qualification as well as performing in the daily role as Mazars will recognise hard workers and increased efforts where applicable. It is evident that Mazars reward their staff appropriately and help create proper accounting professionals.
