Ensuring health and safety standards in regards to all assets and projects to maximise safe customer journeys through all of our transport services. Asset maintenance is very important in fulfilling product design life and sustainability whilst reducing our carbon footprint.
I have learnt a variety of new skills including team working, more confidence in public speaking due to the amount of new people I interact with. Understanding health and safety in alternative ways such as inclusive design and studying different legal standards.
I really enjoy my programme as I have a very supportive circle of managers and colleagues who are always willing to help me and support my ongoing progress. I also appreciate all the opportunities that I have available to pursue within TfL.
My apprenticeship structure is efficiently structured to enable maximum experience and progress in different areas; these operate on a six monthly rotation basis, therefore my range of skills and ability will be catered to a variety of different sectors.
My support network is very secure and this is achieved through a monthly 1-2-1 with my manager and sponsor where I give updates on how i feel as well as issues I may be having. I am always encouraged to be vocal about my apprenticeship.
My training provider website has different options for student support however, working towards my qualifications is an individual journey whereby the only communication I receive is the content of my learning plan. Extra curricular work is always offered to aid revision.
My uni learning plan is very good at breaking down a necessary aspects of building surveying and identifying different standards which are transferable to some aspects of TfL. TfL is specialised to transport, my uni plan cannot be too specialised so is sometimes too broad for the information I need.
TfL are extremely good at promoting networking for example there's a group for Women in STEM who organise regular social events. There are lots of graduates and apprentices socials which are very welcoming. Furthermore, other networking events take place frequently which are available to everyone.
Yes
The constant support from peers and managers who all want you to exceed in your career. This is demonstrated through the very efficiently organised placements plans to maximise a variety of skills as well as the different networking events where you can interact with lots of different people.
Make sure you are aware of the entirety of the scheme, a 5 year degree apprenticeship must be something you are willing to commit to. Be confident and enthusiastic in your knowledge and capability as these qualities really stand out.
