As of right now in my first year, I am attending college on a full time basis. On a Monday Tuesday I complete a NC in mechanical engineering, and on the other three days I complete a performing engineering operations qualitfication, which is a mix of practical and report writing.
Yes I have learned a range of new skills from practical to science based skills. One thing that has got increasingly better is my numerical problem solving and science type equation solving. I can understand it a lot better than I did before in school. I have also learned a range of different practical applications.
I really enjoy my programme, it is very interesting and there are so many different roots to go down once you are fully qualified. You get great benefits and a lot of help if you are struggling or not understanding certain aspects. The company provide a range of great team building experience.
The programme is very well organised, on days where the college is off we will complete necessary health and safety training that we will need when we get in onto the yards ourselves. One thing I would say is at the end of the course a lot of people are complete before others which means sometimes we are sat around waiting for something to do in the college.
We receive a lot of support from our employers, there are loads of different people to get into contact with if you have any concerns or problems. They also provide lots of different helplines and numbers if you are struggling with mental health or struggling at home. If you are struggling with college work they will provide a plan to see how you can make it easier for yourself.
They provide a good amount of support. It is more up to the lecturers for the first year, until we get into the yard on the 2nd year.
It helps me a lot as I am learning a variety of different trades in the first year to help me better understand the other roles in the yard.
I am not sure.
Yes
I would recommend it as there are lots of chances for progression and the benefits and salary will be hard to be matched elsewhere.
Make sure to apply to two programmes that you like as one may be more full than others.
