As a first year pipefitting apprentice, i only really have experience working in college, where we do both academic and practical work. The college has been really helpful in regards to giving us a basic knowledge on what will come in the yard.
I’ve learned many skills that will come in handy in the yard. Both practically and academically.
My colleagues have helped with the programme, when it comes to any problems with work etc, everyone helps each other out.
I think the programme is structured well, I just wish there was more clarity between college and my employer, due to a few hiccups throughout the year.
Apprentices receive lots of help when needed.
The lecturers do everything they can to support you throughout the year.
I think it gives me a better understanding of the job role, which relates well with what we will be doing in the yard.
