On the apprenticeship I rotate around 4 x 6 month placements, which means I get to see different aspects of the business from a Supply Chain perspective. I wouldn't say there is a typical 'day-to-day' as you are constantly learning new things.
I have developed existing skills such as; organisation, time management and excel.
I have really enjoyed the programme so far, its not like anything else. You get to learn on the job and get paid, I wish I had of done it sooner.
I am the second year to do this new apprenticeship, so understandably there is some more work to do around structure and organisation, but I am sure this will come with time.
Support can always be found on the employee app, our intranet and different line managers. As apprentice we have support form early careers, scheme leads and placement managers.
We have had a couple of different tutors from our training provider, mainly due to problems around being not engaging, long PowerPoints and poor response times to emails. However our new tutor, Martin, has been able to rectify these problems and is doing great guiding us through our exam process.
The qualification is very relevant to my role and I feel as though it has supported me to be able to better understand how and why things are done in a certain way. My only criticism would be the order of lesson topics, some would be more relevant towards the start of the apprenticship. For example the structure of meetings and methods of communication would be better at the start of the apprenticship as this would reflect more in the job.
The are many extra- curricular activities at work but we often support what we call 'stretch' activities, these are aspects typical not in your day-to-day role that help support your growth and network in the company. These can include; charity events, networking events, addition learning qualifications etc.
Yes
BAE Systems creates a really supportive work environment that makes you want to strive to do well.
For an apprenticship: Research the company, try your best in the application and online tests and if you don't get in the first time, keep applying as this shows you are determined.
