On a daily basis, I work as an active member of the engineering team in my placement. I help to achieve milestones by working with other members of the team, and on individual projects.
I have learned much more about the Software Engineering lifecycle and also elements of professional working. I have learned how to derive requirements and designs, then use these to implement a system against a given brief. I have also had experience testing software and evaluating engineering processes.
I think the programme is extremely valuable, as it allows you to work on real-life projects alongside engineers with years of valuable experience. The diploma and university side allow you to encapsulate and consolidate this learning experience.
The programme is well structured into 6-7 month placements, with an extended final placement (exit role). Placements are briefed beforehand on the expectations from us and what they can expect back. During university, there is a 3-day working week while you spent the remaining 2 days at University.
The assigned skills coaches are very helpful and assist you in development within your role and with personal career aspirations. There are a wide selection of people available to help at all times with both work tasks and university tasks.
The employer is extremely supportive of the University and Diploma processes, and will help to resolve any issues which arise. Placements can also be flexible when University work builds up.
Most of the modules I have taken up to this point have been useful for improving the way I complete work tasks.
There are often placement specific social events which are organised plus early careers-wide tasks and events.

A great employer which supports the training and development of apprentices in their domain of work. Also very inclusive and provides valuable industry experience which would be hard to find elsewhere.
Show a keen interest in the role and prove that you have the ways of thinking and competencies which would be required in the role you are applying for.
