My role involves a lot of communication with my internal team and getting allocated work and completing it, however I am feeling a lot more independent now as I understand the work more, I feel like I can communicate with the members of the engagement team and have been on a few projects by now.
I have developed my confidence and communication skills as it is key to the job. I have also improved my excel skills majorly from day 1 which is a very essential skill for the job.
I have enjoyed it a lot so far as it comes with its challenges and its rewarding high points also. At times, it has been very difficult as it is a big step up from school and can be very stressful and the exams can take up a lot of your free time.
I feel it in principle is very well organised however when issues arise on an individual basis, it takes a lot of time and effort and waiting for them to be resolved, depending on the issue. I feel some exams do also help you in your actual working life too
I have received a lot of support from BDO whether it be study days being able to be used for my exams, the option to not do overtime due to exams, being able to work from home quite often gives a nice break and saves money which is very helpful
BPP have offered a lot of support with the courses I have taken so far as if you are not in college for exams, there is videos on all pages of the study materials along with a lot of questions to go through, all with worked examples however some are better than others
I feel some exams have been linked well to my role as I have had a better understanding of the work I am doing and how it is necessary and how to perform it. Some exams have had aspects where I am yet to see the use of it however it could arise
There are many extra curricular activities, especially social events which are arranged by the social teams within the company. Sometimes it may be hard to want to go to them because you do not know many people to start off with but after some time you will be a lot more comfortable
Yes
BDO have been very helpful making me feel very involved in the company and supporting me with giving me responsibility to help improve confidence and skill levels but also providing the help on the areas that I have faced issues with. They have also been very easy to communicate with internally
I would say to definitely apply for BDO if you are interested in what the job entails and it can seem very difficult at times but there is always the support you need if you ask for it and even though they're not a Big 4 company, you still get very interesting and large jobs and feel more involved in the bigger picture
