Technology Degree Apprentice Review

As a tech degree apprentice, my day-to-day revolves mainly around coding and working on software projects for the firm. I get to use my skills by creating and optimizing database queries, ensuring smooth data integration, and maintaining data integrity. I enjoy the flexibility of hybrid working, collaborating both in the office and remotely with my team. It's the perfect balance of technical challenges and work-life harmony.

In my role as a tech degree apprentice, I had opportunity to learn SQL on the job. I dove right into practical application, honing my SQL skills through projects and challenges. Plus, I get to experience different work styles like Agile methodology. It's a dynamic approach that emphasizes collaboration, adaptability, and iterative progress. I it keeps things fresh, fosters effective teamwork, and allows us to deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment. The work environment at my workplace is truly lovely. The team fosters a supportive and inclusive atmosphere, where everyone's ideas and contributions are valued. There's a strong sense of camaraderie, making it a joy to collaborate and learn from each other. This makes it really enjoyable to work here. On the other had, I do sometimes want more variety within my role to learn different things.

My apprenticeship is well structured, providing a clear path for my professional growth. However, there are instances where the resourcing team takes time to allocate me to a project. During such moments, I have to take initiative to find work independently, which can be difficult if you don't know may senior people with availability.

PwC provides so much support! I have good hours that allow me to maintain a healthy work-life balance ad don't work any overtime. Moreover, they prioritize the well-being of their employees, offering strong support for mental and physical health. It's a nurturing environment where I feel valued and empowered to grow both personally and professionally.

The university I attend provides good support through its personal tutor program. The tutors offer guidance not only in academics but also in personal well-being. I have gone to my personal tutor many times to ask for all sorts of advice. They serve as mentors, helping students navigate challenges and offering advice. It's reassuring to have a dedicated support system that actually cares about my development.

While my university coursework has some loose connections to my job, such as general data science concepts and a foundation in sql and python, I haven't had many opportunities to apply the more theoretical and mathematical aspects in my role. However, I appreciate the foundation they provide, enabling me to think critically and approach problem-solving with a broader perspective.

As a firm, we organise volunteering events together which we do occasionally to give back to our community, like outreach projects, fundraising events and environmental work like weeding and conservation. We also have social events within our team to encourage everyone to get to know each other, like escape rooms and dinners.
