My day-to-day role consists of communicating with wider members of my team, taking part in meetings to see if our work has progressed, updating trackers so the business is aware of our progress and creating vital documents to send out to BAEs customer. We also have a weekly team meeting to ensure alignment and an evenly spread workload.
I have learnt multiple new skills within my short time at BAE so far including; teamwork through working within the same team each day, professionalism as we keep high standards and you never know when the customer may be on your site! and time management as you are expected to manage your own working days.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the beginning of my programme at BAE so far, i have been offered multiple amazing opportunities such as travelling to see the customer, tours of different sites, working with a variety of different teams from different parts of the business and i have enjoyed every part of the journey so far!
My current programme is structured very well, with having one college day per month it gives me more time to focus on understanding each business role i am in. The time we do have in college is jam packed with lots of information to help with our assignments and to gain a deeper understanding of BAE. My placements are rotated every 6 months for a 2 year period to give me different perspectives of BAE and how it works.
I receive maximum support from my employer, i have my line manager whom i am in contact with daily regarding my workload, i was also paired with a second year BMA (buddy) at the start of my apprenticeship to ask about the ins and outs of the job, i also have my skills coach that i can discuss anything with from things that are affecting me in my personal life to things i a struggling with at work. I know their are also other people i can get in touch with such as occupational health, safeguarding employees and other colleagues in the office.
I receive a lot of support form my training provider at BAE, our skills coaches are divided into smaller groups of apprentices so you have a direct contact that you can go to with any queries about your job or wellbeing, we have a 10-weekly review to look over my progress for the past weeks and discuss targets for the coming weeks, my line manager will also attend this meeting so they are aware of my progress.
I feel my qualification will give me a great perspective of the different roles at BAE and an in depth knowledge of how we works as a business, my assignments go into thorough detail of multiple areas of BAE such as policies, regulations, external factors, the environment we work in etc etc.
Their are multiple extra curricular activities to get involved in at work, as well as social activities. Every Christmas we hold a XPU where their is an opportunity to meet line managers, different teams and employees of BAE systems, i have recently been tasked with creating a similar event but in a summer timeframe so they are evenly spread throughout the year. Apprentices are always offered lots of extra-curricular things to get involved in such as mentoring, bake sales, stretch assignments and much more!
Yes
As their is a job for everyone at BAE, you are contributing to protecting the country so you will be really proud of what you do and who you work for, their is a variety of locations to work at and the teams you work in will be friends for life!
BE YOURSELF! Don't hold yourself in a way that isn't true to yourself, BAE is looking for a diverse workforce so we can build a team of people from all types of experiences. KEEP APPLYING! Most of my colleagues on the BMA scheme did not get in on their first application to BAE, we want to see that you are dedicated and really want this role as it is a job for life!
