I am currently a shift manager at McDonald’s, this includes ensuring safety and security of the restaurant and staff members. Working towards targets and objectives. Cash management. Inventory management. First aid. Health and safety. Corrective coaching. Implementing new procedures. Setting standards. Boosting team morale. Working as a team. Professional working environment.
I have definitely learnt a good few skills since completing my apprenticeship. I have gained knowledge about all of the different leadership styles, ways to communicate within a team. How to change my leadership style depending on the situation or the person I am dealing with, and I learnt a lot about the internal communications.
I really enjoyed the freedom it gave me, I was given time to complete my work whilst I was at work which was really enjoyable. I had a lot of support and it really gave me that stepping stone to get to a higher position in my store. I really enjoyed it.
Really well structured. My mentor was brilliant, he was really communicative and always prepared. He let me know what to expect whilst completing my programme and also was really on the ball with making my appointments and meet ups that we had quite regularly. It was clear to me what was expected.
The support I got from my employer was really good. I was allocated a shift a month to complete any of my outstanding work, I was also mentored through the programme by my senior manager who really checked in and supported me to get my way through the programme. Great support.
A lot of training was given to me by the training provider. He was such a great mentor to me, he really got to know me on a personal level and knew how I worked. He was always just a phone call away if I was struggling.
It has definitely given me that stepping stone that was required of me to reach the next point in my career. With the apprenticeship, I really gained valuable knowledge that I have still remembered and I still use to this day. I often refer back to certain points of it and remember.
We do sometimes have some social events and that I to reward the employees for excelling within the store. We often have a party, or even a day out with the whole of the store. This is nice as it ensures team building and friendship buildings, this really helps the team bond.
Yes
McDonald’s is a really flexible and friendly place to work. The shifts are often really organised and the staff are really nice and respectful. It’s a place where you can really progress yourself and build on your career. I enjoy it as I get on with everyone and have made some friendships along the way.
Be yourself, we want real people not robots. Customer service is always at the forefront of everything. We like personality, proactiveness, respect, and people with their head on their shoulders. Be customer focused, and objective headed. This will really help you with your application. But most importantly be yourself and smile.
