General maintenance within train depots and stations.
Progress has been slow with many delays and waiting around within my first year. However things are picking up and I am learning new skills such as installing new electrical and mechanical equipment.
I did not enjoy my scheme when I first started but as the role progressed I started to enjoy it more and more.
My 2nd year has been organized well as I have had the opportunity to go on different placements within the company. This allowed me to learn new skills and meet new people.
My employer supports me a lot. Whenever I have an issue my managers address it. We have regular meetings to discuss how things are going which helps mentally as sometimes things can be stressful.
My training provider are great at helping when I need it and making sure I get work done to the required deadlines.
My qualification gives me a better understanding of the theory elements that apply to my role. For example how certain pieces of equipment function and what to do when things go wrong.
We have a graduate and apprentice committee GAC. This is where all apprentices and grads can network and attend social events together.
