My apprenticeship is split into 5 years. My first placement is in EIT Export Control. For the first 6 months of my placement I was shadowing my manager on one of her projects. She would delegate me tasks throughout the week. Recently I have picked up my own project and am taking on more responsibility.
I have learnt hundreds of skills during my time in placement. I have developed my excel skills massively as I haven't had much chance to develop those skills before my apprenticeship. I have also improved my writing skills through needing to write more professional documents. I have also learnt how to use Microsoft project.
I have really enjoyed my programme so far. I have made a lot of friends. I am really enjoying the split between university and work. I feel I have developed my skills massively during my time in the apprenticeship so far. I have developed my communication and organisation skills a lot and feel a lot more confident.
I think the programme is well structured. I feel we have a lot of support around us and there is always someone to reach out to. I think communication between work and university has been good and they always listen and act on feedback. I feel we are supported very well.
I receive a lot of support from my employer. I have a skills coach, a line manager, a supportive team, a mentor, university lecturers and many other familiar faces who I am always happy to reach out to if I have any issues. I feel there is always someone I can speak to if I am unhappy.
I think there is a lot of support towards qualifications. Although I do believe some of the lecturers have been a lot better and more supportive than others. On the whole, there is a lot of support and if I don't want to contact a certain person, there are always alternatives.
Sometimes I have struggled bringing university work into work as it is sometimes taught differently to how it is used within the business. However other areas have lined up really well and I have gained a better understanding because of the crossover between content and working requirements. I think this will improve in future years.
I dont know of any extra curricular activities that are set in stone across the business however there are a lot of activities and events including charity bake sales, fundraisers etc. In my team, we have set up lunch club where we all come into the office on the same day and go out for lunch together. We choose a different place each week and rate the food on a spreadsheet. This has really improved my relationships.
Yes
I think it is an amazing company to work for. The business is really supportive and wants the best for their apprentices. I think there is a lot of support so employees never feel alone and there is always someone to answer any questions you have. I think it is a really happy place to work and i enjoy coming to work.
I think when applying for your interview, it is very important to get to know the business and what it is your applying for. This will help to build your knowledge so you are well prepared for your interview. More importantly, i think it is essential to be yourself when speaking.
