Assistant tax advisor includes assisting with key admin engagement tasks to help the flow of an engagement. It also includes joining client meetings and assisting with technical tasks and memos. Furthermore, I have the ability to delegate work to more junior members of the team and support their development in the firm.
I have developed better time management skills as I have to balance multiple engagements at one time. This also includes people management as I need to balance multiple managers and manage their expectation of when work will be provided. Furthermore, my confidence has increased massively as I have exposure to client communciation.
I thoroughly enjoy my programme as I work with a wide range of people and am able to work on a wide range of engagements. This allows me to work on a wide range of clients in both the WAM and banking sector. My day to day roles vary each day which makes work exciting.
The programme is extremely well structured and I understand what role I am expected to perform in each rank. The programme is very progressive and allows you to go from an Associate which means undertaking the work, to a Senior which allows you to review an Associate's work to gain new skills.
I receive lots of support from my employer. EY allocate a counsellor to each employee which means you have a specific person you can confide in and open up to with regards to key work issues. My employer also supports my exam pathway and ensures I have the right support to pass exams.
My training provider is supportive in my qualifications through offering a mailbox to send any specific queries to. This includes any queries we may have when undertaking practice questions. Tutors also provide their email so you can send answers to your practice questions to be marked and receive feedback on.
I wouldn't say that my qualification massively correlates to the work I perform in my day to day job. The content does not have much relevance to my day to day job. However, the qualification is useful to understand key accounting and tax principles that may required in the future.
EY offer lots of networks in which you can get involved with. This allows you to meet new people and get involved in areas that are of your interest outside of work. This also includes sporting clubs such as netball and golf, as well as non-sporting networks such as the mental health network.
Yes
EY is made up of an extremely friendly and supportive work intake. This allows me to feel supported during work, as well as able to undertake my qualification and learn on my day to day job. EY is also very inclusive meaning that is a firm for every body to feel included.
I would advice other applying to EY to be yourself during the application process. EY is such an inclusive firm that everybody is welcomed. Therefore, by being yourself, it allows you to stay true to yourself. Moreover, I would advise people to undertake other programmes offered by EY such as the summer intern programmes.
