  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Looking after our residents with a person centred approach, always maintaining their respect and dignity at all times. Liaising with families and other health officials. I also have one to one observations and making sure all paperwork is kept up to date, I have re positioning charts to fill out. One of my jobs is doing the off duty for all support workers. Getting our residents to be involved in activities and spreading lots of happy cheer throughout my day at work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have some team building get togethers which helps us to also socialise outside of work rather than just seeing each other in our job. We hold functions at work which we all work together as a team, helps us all put together our ideas and makes us a stronger team.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barchester to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Barchester healthcare started for me when my dad became a resident at the care home Briardene which I work for. I always worked in admin or childcare and it’s only when I sadly lost my dad that I approached the manager and asked if I could become a support worker and change my career, I wanted to look after others the way my dad was looked after as the care my dad received was amazing . I’ve never looked back and I feel I can help when any families need to speak to me anyone that’s been through dementia and how it can be just as hard for the families to deal with. I love my job and couldn’t work for anyone else other than Briardene.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barchester?
  • I would say to research dementia and as long as you have a caring nature then you’re on the right path, we don’t go into this job for the money, we do the job through love. Looking after someone the way you’d want your loved one to be cared for . Barchester offer the best in training and so many pluses working for this company. We have care awards yearly which recognise outstanding workers and makes them stand out from the crowd with the job they carry out.
