I have two different roles within BAE Systems. One being my role as an apprentice and the other being my role as a Project Manager. As an Apprentice my day to day role includes keeping up to date and submitting assignments, off the job log, attending college classes etc. As a Project Manager I am responsible for completing actions given to me by my team and contributing towards the teams projects.
During my time on the Business Administration Apprenticeship scheme I have developed a number of skills. I believe that the skills that I have learnt will put me in a good stance to be the best employee possible for BAES. Examples of the skills developed include confidence, communication, adaptability, organisation.
Both the apprenticeship aspect and working aspect of my role within BAE Systems I thoroughly enjoy. I specifically enjoy attending college days on site as I get to mix with fellow apprentices. I also enjoy the level of responsibility and trust that I am given during my placements and within teams.
The Apprenticeship programme is well structure in terms of the number of assignments we are given and the number of college days that we are expected to attend. However, towards our EPA the organisation and communication seemed to deteriorate slightly. We also had a lot of work unmarked which made submitting work for EPA worrying for many of us.
I was given a lot of support from all Early Careers skills coaches and members of the team. They were always reassuring and on hand to answer any questions and queries that I had. However, as mentioned above the lack of marking of our work was a concern for me.
I received a lot of support from the beginning of the BMA Apprenticeship scheme from a number of different people. They were always reassuring and on hand to answer any questions and queries that I had. However, as mentioned above the lack of marking of our work was a concern for me. On the other hand they worked very hard to ensure I felt comfortable and some what prepared for EPA.
The work that we are assigned in terms of projects and assignments contribute to my performance in my role significantly. The college classes and knowledge that we are taught also put me in a a very good stance to perform well in my job role. I believe that the KSBs developed from the scheme will help me throughout my career.
There are a number of extra curricular activities to get involved in at work and within the BMA Apprenticeship scheme. I have had the opportunity to attend celebration events, open events, quiz nights, team lunches. There is also a trip for apprentices called Outward Bound which is a team building trip to the Lake District.
Yes
The reason that I would support BAE Systems to a friend is due to the support and friendliness that is provided by everyone within the company. Everyone is very approachable and always keen to help support you in anyway. I do recommend the company to a number of people often.
What I would say to someone applying for an apprenticeship with BAE Systems is to do lots of research. Research the company, values, aims, goals, mission statements, the sites, functions, different sectors, products and project we develop and are working on, unique facts about the company and to to do mock interviews prior.
