I assist senior engineers in designing heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems within the nuclear energy industry. This involves producing sketches, drawings, calculations, presentations, written documents, modelling and collating data in spreadsheets.
I have really improved my Excel skills as this app is needed a lot to help with calculations. I have developed CAD skills in AutoCAD and Revit for completing drawings and modelling.
I really enjoy my apprenticeship as although it is challenging, I am given the time to learn and develop my skills and I feel supported by the people around me. I feel like I have a long term career to look forward to rather than worrying about my future.
My college course is not really specific to my role or engineering discipline and I feel like this could be better organised. There are clear goals that I need to meet in my job which allow me to track my progression.
My employer is very supportive and always check in to make sure you have everything you need to do your job effectively and safely.
I receive support from the training provider but it is minimal, this area of the apprenticeship could be better.
I don't think it helps, it's more time consuming than anything.
There are loads of extra curricular things to take part in with societies for different activities and an annual sports day.
Yes
Great support, great career prospects and an all round great organisation.
Motts gave me an opportunity to change my career later in life so if you're older and unsure about taking on an apprenticeship just go for it.
