  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My overall experience so far with Mott Macdonald has been brilliant. I was instantly welcomed into the team, provided with training, support and there has always been a college to go and speak to whenever I am unsure or stuck on a task. The opportunities I have been offered have been endless, already kickstarting my career in the best way possible.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • When starting at Mott Macdonald, I entered the industry with the basic soft skills hoping to advance and build on these. I most definitely have achieved this and beyond. I have learnt new skills I never though I would and constantly learning everyday with the help of everyone around me at the company.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • When starting out looking for a degree apprenticeship I never thought I would be where I am today, enjoying my apprenticeship as much as I do. The learning is endless and enjoyable at the same time, being able to apply the knowledge I am learning on the programme to work in real life.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of the programme is brilliant, how it is laid out in regards to being able to work essentially a full time job and complete a university degree at the same time. It is hard work, but so far the hard work has paid off. It is all about time management and communication to get the most out of the programme.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support from everyone at Mott MacDonald is endless. There is always someone to approach, ask questions to, seek advice or even just chat to if you need someone to talk to. They want to ensure you are part of the family and never left out. With my line manager we always have frequent catch-ups were they ask how my projects are going and if there is anything I need help with.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • At the university they have Apprenticeship Outcomes Officers who are always at the other end of an email if you need any help or advice. They complete monthly catch-ups to discuss how everything is going and what skills I have advanced in the period and set goals for myself to achieve each month to ensure I am getting the best out of my apprenticeship.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • What I learn at university applies directly to my role, meaning the knowledge I learn through my training provider relates straight back to the day-to-day activities I am working on at Mott MacDonald. This means I have a better understanding of what I am dealing with in my projects and can perform my job role to a higher standard.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are always extra-curricular activities happening around work, many socials to meet new people and network around the organisation. I am personally am a-part of a netball team in the London office and there are always more events you can get involved in outside of your day-to-day work. Next month there is the Mott MacDonald Sports day.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Mott MacDonald to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Mott MacDonald as an organisation and someone who has just started out in the professional industry of work, I have never felt more included and valued as an employee despite just starting out. I have a long way to go and so much more to learn but I have no doubt that I will be able to get this from MM.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mott MacDonald?
  • Just be yourself. They are looking for people who can not only fit into the organisation, but someone who will be a valued member of the team. Communication is key, ask many questions and ensure that this role is the right one for you as they are always keen on people who want to learn and expand their knowledge.
