Student Health Visitor - working alongside the multi-disciplinary team and practice assessors and supervisors to promote public health awareness amongst children and families by completing mandated visits as per HCP to lay the foundations to provide children with the best start in life.
- Developed existing transferable skills such as caseload management, effective communication and holistic assessments. - Learnt new skills such as assessment of older children using the ASQ skills and utilising services and referrals within the area - Learning more in-depth roles of the MDT involved in children’s care - expanded safeguarding knowledge to understand early intervention and prevention
The academic side of the programme was very intense, very quick turnover in deadlines and overlapping of modules making it hard to absorb and learn new knowledge - feel programme needs to be lengthened. Practice side has been incredible, very welcomed by all members of the team, very supportive team leaders and practice assessors and supervisors, always involved in team aspects and encouraged to contribute, lots of learning opportunities to meet my outcomes and regular meetings to review this to ensure exposure is relevant.
As above, very fast turnover of modules and overlapping in modules make it very confusing and difficult to follow and also increases stress levels in an already intense course - I feel the programme needs to be extended to allow for appropriate length modules to properly absorb new information - often felt like “whistle stop tours” of important modules for our course.
Employer extremely supportive, team leader incredibly passionate about meeting needs and provides a warm welcoming environment and her leadership style has evident positive effects amongst team. Practice supervisor and assessor extremely supportive and passionate of supporting my learning, always approachable and empowering. All members of my team have made my experience a very positive one and I have accepted a job within my team upon qualifying.
Attended multiple training courses provided by employer during course such as - CAPS - Baby massage - ASQ - Safeguarding
Exposure to all elements of the role has enabled me to develop and expand the appropriate knowledge and skills base in order to perform my role. Training to ensure skills remain up to date.
