I'm a science technician in a secondary school. I support the science department and provide them with chemicals and equipment to be able to deliver science experiments to the students. I'm responsible for the health and safety of the department and carrying out day to day checks. Looking to keep the science experiments fresh and exciting to keep the students engaged.
My health and safety knowledge has improved massively, doing this course has highlighted areas on where to improve practices in the role I do, and these have been implemented across the department. My titration skills have also improved, i feel much more confident in completing them getting the values within range every time.
I enjoyed learning new information and skills. I enjoyed the online sessions with my tutor. His knowledge on the subjects was amazing, he could answer any question or query I had and was very supportive throughout my apprenticeship. The knowledge I learnt I enjoyed sharing with the science team in our weekly briefings.
The programme was really well organised, was really easy to follow and understand. Starting off with the health and safety aspects of the course and the job role, learning about all the rules and legislations was really important as this set the standard of health and safety for the whole course
My employer was very supportive, they allowed me the time and the resources to be able to complete the apprenticeship successfully. I had staff that were able to help me through the course in areas I found more difficult, for example a science teacher helped me with the physics section when revising for the exam.
I received revision sessions when it came towards the exams and professional discussions. He provided me with PowerPoint lesson resources and video recordings of the sessions for if I was ever unable to attend due to work commitments which helped me a lot, as I was able to watch these when I could fit them into my work schedule.
I learnt a lot of information especially in the health and safety topic - this helped me to improve the health and safety of the department. For example, making sure everyone understood the legislations and becoming a part of making our new health and safety policy for the science department.
