In my role I use CostX regulary to measure buildings and ultimately create cost plans from this. I work only with M&S on their developments, foodhalls, expansions and so on. As we are a PQS firm, we communicate between the client and main/ sub-contractors. My responsibilities include goods receipting invoices for the contractors onto the clients system and various other things.
I have learnt lots of new skills. The main thing I have learnt is using excel, I was ok on it before, but using it daily means I have learnt all the shortcuts and formulas I need to competently do my job. I have also learnt that communication is key, without it thats when things start to go wrong.
I enjoy my programme a huge amount. I did not want to just go to uni, I wanted to have a job and get working straight away, so with a degree apprenticeship having the opportunity to do both is amazing and it's something more people need to learn about.
I would say that the programme is very well organised and structured, the university communicate with us very well. Both me and my manager at work have regular meetings where we discuss how I'm doing with my course and my coursework results, attendance, engagement and many other important points.
My employer gives me a lot of support. There are several people in the organisation who have been through the degree apprtenticehsip before who are able to give me some guidance if I don't understand something. Also my manager and director are always checking up on me and making sure I can keep up with my uni work.
My training provider provides a lot of support, there are several people who have been through the apprenticeship before me so they can always provide me with guidance and show me how to do something if I do not understand it. I know that I can ask for help if needed.
My qualification helps me perform a lot better in my job role. This is because as I am learning on the job, things I have learnt at uni make sense even more when I do it at work as I am being actively involved and seeing it done, which helps a lot.
Yes there are lots of other activities at my work to get involved in. There are lots of opportunities to go on social events, which mostly include all apprentices meeting in a bar and there is also opportunity to get involved in football and playing cricket with the teams here.
Yes
I would reccommend Gleeds to a friend as they are a fantastic employer. Right from the start they have been very supportive, they are a gold standard employer and have won awards for it, which is reflected in the way they treat their employees, they make sure my wage is at least minimum living wage rather than just minimum wage.
My tips or advice for anyone applying to be Gleeds would just to be your self in the interview as its important you know you can get along with your potential colleagues. Also, be prepared for your interview, make sure you have done your research, who their competitors are, what clients they work with etc.
