I will have 3 days a week at college in the first year and the other 2 at work. In company I will be either stripping or assembling engines to a high level standard. At college I am on a multi skilled course learning how to weld, panel wiring, machining and mechanical engineering at the moment however there are many more skills that I will come across as I progress through the course.
I have develop many more skills through receiving this opportunity and i count myself very fortunate for it. Some of these skills include welding, electrical knowledge and learning how to assemble engines correctly and up fitting engines to the customers standard and also knowledge behind why engines are built to how they are.
I am really enjoying this program as there is so much to learn so I can keep pushing myself and setting new goals for myself to achieve so I can develop my knowledge to hopefully drive higher up throughout my career. This course so far has developed my knowledge and skills a substantial amount already and I am only coming up to one year in so far.
The structure of this program is very organised as it is a set structure with three days a week at college which is Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and two days at work being Tuesdays and Thursdays. By tis being a set structure and fixed hours it allows me to plan my workload for college around these hours and my hobbies so that they can fit around this.
I recieve all the support I need from the employer as if I needed to get my college work done to meet a deadline they would offer me as much time as I need to complete it at work so that I do not fall behind with my studies. At work I will work for a certain ammount of months within a part of the workshop and then move about. This allows me to gain a field of knowledge around the business so I can find what I like the best.
I receive a lot of support from my tutors at tresham as all I need to do when I'm not quite understanding something or if I am left confused about a task is just ask whether it is through an email or in person and they will always guide you to the right tracks.
I find that most my learning for my role comes from the practical side of things when on the job however i would not change a thing about the course I am doing with my training provider as It teaches me many skills and allows me to become multiskilled so I can deal with situations that many others may not be able to handle in the future. By having this basis of knowledge I am hoping it will allow me to progress my career further than it would if I only knew the role I am in now.
At Cummins they do charity work to get involved with the community but there are not any professional networking events that I am aware of and the same goes for sports teams but it is a very welcoming place to work for as everyone is nice and will try and involve you.
Yes
Overall this role has developed my Knowledge and drastically in a short space of time and if you are willing to always work hard I feel like there will be many opportunities to keep climbing up the business and take your previous knowledge to a whole new level meaning you will constantly be developing.
When applying to Cummins make sure to show your confident side and be prepared to work hard and never stop asking questions.
