My role involved supporting various teams across HS2's Communications Directorate including Digital, Media, Public Affairs, Campaigns & Internal Communications. I supported the delivery of events, write press releases and online content and organised workloads.
Yes, my role allowed me to develop my writing ability, presentational skills and knowledge the transport and construction industry. By the end of my course, I was able to deliver complex events and produce press releases independently.
I had a highly supportive team who really encouraged my development in the company. They understood that 20% of my working time was dedicated to college work. They involved me in multiple interesting events and projects meaning I was never bored.
The expectations of my course were clearly defined. I was offered multiple opportunities for development that directly linked with my college work, making my ability to link my work and reflective practice easier.
My team and wider company were very flexible with supporting my apprenticeship. My company offers a range of schemes to help to support me including mentoring. I was also supported by a dedicated Future Talent team who held regular check ups with me. Where there were gaps in my experience, they offered sessions to fill these gaps.
My training provider were available at all points during my apprenticeship. They were able to offer constructive criticism to help improve my college work.
My qualification linked directly to my new job. I was new to the world of communications and my apprenticeship helped to introduce the concept to me. I still use the knowledge I received from the course in my role today.
I was heavily involved in the Future Talent Network, which sets up events for apprentices. My company also offers volunteering days and pays for one professional membership linked to your role.
Yes
It is a great company to work for. Despite being a large company they offer you a lot of individual support.
The HS2 project is massive, it's important to get your head around it before applying.
